Sense of Kinship

be·long·ing [bih-lawng-ing] secure relationship; affinity (esp in the phrase a sense of belonging )

Family is very important to me and leaving my immediate family to find my own place in this world was very hard. I am many thousand miles away from them and it has been difficult to maintain a sense of belonging when you are in a foreign country that has a totally different culture from yours and integrating yourself into it is a challenge. In the many years I have lived on my own, I have met hundreds of people but only a few remained in my life.  Those are the people who have become not only my friends but also became my family.  They shared their homes with me and I felt I belong again. They are the people who I look forward to seeing because it makes me feel that I am a part of something...something that is wonderful and special that I will treasure forever.

"Friends are planted in our lives to grow with us and help us bloom to the fullest.  We go through rains and storms with them and some will not be able to withstand them but those who are able to are there with us to witness the coming out of the sun."
